We’re a group that’s obsessed with texting, emailing, and social networking. That’s why we set out to build a messaging app that’s the best of all worlds.
We wanted to share vacation photos, but not with everyone on Facebook—only the people who went on the trip. Plus, not everyone on the trip were our friends on Facebook.
We used email to plan trips with a large group, but one person would forget to reply all and break the whole thread.
We used text to share articles with friends, but the discussion would get unwieldy.
We used iMessage to talk to close friends, but different discussions were getting mixed into one unwieldy thread. We couldn’t pin important things, like a grocery list or an address.
That’s when it dawned on us:
There is a gap between the tools available to us on social media and the ways we actually communicate in real life.
In real life, we don’t just have “friends”—we have acquaintances, colleagues, partners, and neighbors. Not everyone needs to see everything we post online, but we do need to be able to have deeper conversations with certain groups of people at certain points in time. Groups are always changing as we move across the country, switch schools, or pick up a new hobby. We believe our social life should bend and flex to accommodate this.
That’s why Hatch is less about posting your status, and more about getting your message to the right people. Hatch is built around selective networks, which give you the best of email and the best of social.
